OGHS Emergency Center

Call 911 Immediately If You Are Having an Emergency

Life can be unpredictable. Sometimes that’s a good thing, and other times it lands you in the ER. Because of that, Opelousas General Health System’s Emergency Center (ER) is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are a full-service emergency center featuring two accredited locations for patient convenience. Our emergency centers are staffed with skilled physicians and nurses who are ready to care for you or your loved one at a moment's notice.

In an emergency where seconds count, training makes the difference. The Emergency Centers of Opelousas General Health System are designed, equipped, and staffed to respond quickly to the most serious health care emergencies. Our specially-trained emergency services staff are always available to act quickly to provide the life-saving care patients need.

Both of our Emergency Centers feature on-site imaging services and on-site medical laboratory for prompt diagnosis that saves time. Patients admitted into the ER for acute care are given large, private rooms to allow for maximum comfort during an acute care stay. We also offer an in-house outpatient pharmacy conveniently located in the lobby of the Main Campus facility.

At Opelousas General, our mission is your health. Whether your emergency is big or small, you can trust the care of your loved ones to us.

OGHS Main Campus Emergency Center is a STEMI Receiving Facility

  • Severe heart attacks—or STEMIs—are life threatening emergencies where it is important to have the expertise, equipment, facilities, and other resources to administer percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), within the STEMI system of care, according to the American Heart Association.
  • A STEMI-receiving hospital, such as Opelousas General Health System, has the equipment, expertise and facilities to administer percutaneous coronary intervention, a mechanical means of treating heart attack patients. Although PCI is the preferred means of treating STEMI patients, only 25% of hospitals in the United States are equipped to do so. These PCI-capable hospitals are called STEMI-receiving hospitals because they are well equipped to receive and treat STEMI patients.

Both Emergency Centers of OGHS is a Stroke Receiving Facility

  • Both OGHS Emergency Center campuses are certified LERN stroke receiving facilities. Which means we are making exceptional efforts to foster faster recognition, treatment and work to provide better patient outcomes for patients presenting with stroke-like symptoms. This is a signal to our Acadiana community that the quality-of-care OGHS provides meets the unique and specialized needs of stroke patients.
