Opelousas General Health System announces a partnership with Louisiana Organization for Transplant (LOFT). LOFT, an internal division of Tides Medical® focused exclusively on placental acquisition is responsible for managing donation processes and ensuring that the gift of birth tissue is treated with appropriate care.
Created in 2016, LOFT is the only American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) accredited birth tissue program in the state of Louisiana. Headquartered in Lafayette, LOFT works closely with Tides Medical® Tissue Bank to process and manufacture tissue grafts from donated birth tissues used to treat patients with a variety of medical needs, largely focused on chronic wounds. These tissue grafts are processed from the placenta in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, FDA guidance, and the rigorous standards of AATB. A single donated placenta can treat multiple patients with various health conditions once processed by the Tides Medical® team.
The donation process is easy and rewarding for everyone involved. It is a small gift with a massive impact. Many women have learned the importance of donation and have chosen to participate in donation with LOFT for numerous pregnancies.
“With a simple donation, expectant mothers can have a substantial impact. With the 3,000+ placentas donated through LOFT, Tides Medical® has the opportunity to offer thousands of patients the advanced treatment solutions they deserve,” said Joe Spell, CEO of Tides Medical.
“We are very excited to partner with LOFT to further advance treatment options locally by providing a greater access to treatment for various health conditions, as well as advanced wound care for patients who suffer from chronic wounds.” said Dr. Rachael Tate, Chief Medical Officer of OGHS.
