Where are you originally from?
I am originally from Erath, Louisiana. I attended medical school at LSU in New Orleans and completed my residency and fellowship at UT Southwestern in Dallas. I am Board Certified in Cytopathology.
Why did you choose OGHS?
I chose OGHS because I wanted to return home, close to family. My first day of work was August 15th. The staff at OGHS has been really welcoming. The number of specialty services available for a small town is impressive. This allows us to serve patients from surrounding smaller towns without requiring travel to Lafayette.
What is your favorite thing about working at OGHS?
I enjoy the lunch hour in the physician lounge. It is a fun atmosphere and allows for the establishment of relationships with colleagues.
What do you enjoy most about being a physician?
I learned about a career path in pathology during my first year of med school. During my second year, I had a course in pathology and knew that would be my area of specialty. My friends and family told me I was too social, and I would be a good fit for working directly with patients; however, I fell in love with the diagnostic side of medicine, getting to the root cause of what is wrong, and enjoy contributing diagnostic information to care providers for the development of treatment plans.
What would you like everyone to know about you?
I love to read books and listen to podcasts, particularly regarding true crime. Anatomy of Murder and Crime Junkie are two of my favorite podcasts. If anyone has other suggestions, I’d love to hear them!
I also want everyone to know that even though my work is behind the scenes, I am available for questions or further discussion. I am willing to get to know everyone and work with care providers to help with diagnosis or determining the cause or nature of the disease. No problem is too insignificant.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I am an animal lover and own a dog and a cat, who both reside indoors. I also enjoy eating out; Pizza Shack and Hacienda are my favorite restaurants in Opelousas.
