Opelousas General Health System (OGHS) was announced recently as a 2020 recipient of the Funds for Safety Grant sponsored and funded by the LHA Trust Funds. OGHS has won this safety grant four times, most recently in 2019.
The 2020 safety grant will be used to complete a security camera installation project begun in 2019 with Funds for Safety grant funds. The project will now install cameras throughout the facility’s second through sixth floors, including the ICU, PCU, and medical surgery units. The goal is to promote employee and patient safety through improved monitoring. OGHS will complete this improvement over the course of the next year.
OGHS’s previous Funds for Safety grant projects include improving emergency department security through training and surveillance and funding targeted temperature management to improve Emergency Department patient outcomes.
The Funds for Safety Grant Program was created in 2012 by the LHA Trust Funds to help fund its members’ initiatives to improve patient or visitor safety. Since its creation, the grant program has awarded more than $2.4 million to fund more than 100 unique projects for facilities in Louisiana.
