Dr. Siby Ayalloore, cardiologist at Cardiovascular Institute of the South, is the first in Louisiana to implant the VIGILANT™ Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Defibrillator at Opelousas General Health System.
This new device combines long-lasting battery technology, therapy optimization, and HeartLogic™ Heart Failure Diagnostics to improve heart failure management. The diagnostic component is proven to provide 70% sensitivity in detecting heart failure events weeks before a patient may need to be hospitalized. Additionally, the Heart Failure Sensor Suite provides multi-factorial, physiological, patient-specific data, allowing physicians to make the best informed decisions for treating heart failure patients. The device is also powered by EnduraLife™ Battery Technology, which has nearly two times the usable battery capacity as certain competitive devices. With this technology, a patient’s device will last approximately ten years before needing a replacement.
“These new heart failure diagnostics make all the difference for our patients,” explained Dr. Ayalloore. “This new system takes what we already know and packages it in a way which is easily understood by everyone. This ultimately can lead to better patient outcomes, and it decreases the chances of hospital readmissions.”
The VIGILANT™ Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Defibrillator is manufactured by Boston Scientific.
