Offers Kids Camp

            Opelousas, La., June 13, 2014, Opelousas General Health System will be offering a kids camp July 22-24, 2014.  The camp is a unique summer co-camp for kids with asthma and kids interested in fitness, nutrition and weight management. 

            Directed by Brent Prather, M.D., Pediatric Asthma and Allergy Specialist and J.Y. Bordelon, M.D., Pulmonologist and Sleep Medicine Specialist, the camp aims to meet the specialized needs of children while providing a fun learning environment.  All events are supervised by OGHS medical professionals.  The team consists of a nurse, exercise specialist, dietitian and respiratory therapist.

            The camp will be held at OGHS South Campus (3983 I-49 S. Service Rd.) on July 22nd and July 23rd and at Louisiana Family Fitness (Heather Drive) on July 24th.  The camp is from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and children can be dropped off as early as 7:30 a.m.  Parents must sign their child in and out at each specific location.  Medications should be brought to camp.

            New to camp is “Parent University”!  Parents are invited to participate in a class on Tuesday and Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.  Topics will include fitness, nutrition, asthma and technology apps. 

            Camp registration is $75 and covers breakfast, lunch, healthy snacks, art supplies, activities and camp T-shirt.  Physician approval is required.
