OGHS Goes Above and Beyond
OGHS GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND
On Friday, June 12th, Karen Gremillion (Chief Nursing Officer), Pam Major (Clinical Director of Labor and Delivery) and Lauren David (Lactation Consultant) attend the second annual MotherBaby Summit held in Baton Rouge. The first part of the Summit was to celebrate the hospitals who had achieved the Baby Friendly Designation in the past year. OGHS was 1 of 5 hospitals to receive this designation. Lauren had the opportunity to present Opelousas General’s experiences with Rooming-In to help inspire other hospitals to make changes that are more in line with Baby Friendly’s 10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.
On the afternoon of the Summit, Karen, Pam and Lauren were surprised by being presented with the “Above and Beyond” Award from The Gift. The award is presented yearly to a Gift designated birthing facility that demonstrates a level of breastfeeding promotion and support above and beyond the minimum requirements for Gift designation and has shown significant improvement in breastfeeding practices and outcomes over time. Lauren says that by receiving this award “it was truly a great day of recognition for all of the hard work our staff has put in.”
"Congratulations to Opelousas General and our staff for receiving this coveted award," she added. Pictured below are Pam Major, Lauren David, and Karen Gremillion along with two representatives from other facilities.
