Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Opelousas General Health System need my money?

Even though Opelousas General Health System is fiscally sound and a good steward in allocating resources, financial demands take a toll. Patient service revenues are not enough to fund the Health System and meet the needs of facility improvements, technology or new services. In order to continue to grow and build upon the efforts of previous generations, it is necessary to find new ways to generate revenue and revitalize facilities and equipment. The Foundation is one of the most practical ways of working together as a community and building public-private partnerships to help sustain Opelousas General Health System now and in the future.

How will my money be used?

The Foundation volunteers and hospital team have identified key projects and services for the Foundation to fund.

Will I make a difference?

No matter how much you contribute or what recognition you receive, the greatest reward for supporting the OGHS Foundation is the satisfaction of knowing you’ve helped to make our community health system stronger. It is difficult to place a value on “kindness” and “caring,” but your support makes those attributes real and tangible for future generations who will benefit from your generosity. Whatever amount you choose to donate, your gift will be combined with donations from others in the community and will serve to work toward a larger goal.

Is my gift tax deductible? Will my gift be kept separate from the hospital funds?

Yes, in most cases, gifts are 100% tax deductible as allowed by law. If goods or services are received in exchange for the gift, the donor will be notified of how much of their gift is tax deductible. OGHS Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and has a separate account set up for contributions that is administered by the Foundation staff and its’ governing body.
